What is Safe Routes to School?
Safe Routes to School is a national and international movement to create safe, convenient, and healthy opportunities for children to walk and bicycle to school. In the United States, the federal government has provided funding since 2005 for all 50 states and the District of Columbia to implement a Safe Routes to School program. Read more.

SRTS Statistics
Within the span of one generation, the percentage of children walking or bicycling to school has dropped precipitously, from approximately 50 percent in 1969 to just 15 percent in 2001.
