Comprehensive Guide to Safe Routes to School in Pennsylvania
The Comprehensive Guide to Safe Routes to School (SRTS) in Pennsylvania provides a central resource for schools, municipalities, community leaders, local and state police, and anyone else seeking information about the SRTS program. The guide, developed by the PA SRTS Resource Center, provides information on all the resources, materials, training, and funding available through the SRTS program.
The comprehensive guide is broken down into the following sections:
- SRTS Program Overview – Includes information about the program in general, the enabling legislation, the program’s history, its funding, and its goals.
- Noninfrastructure Programs and Support – Includes information about how to develop a SRTS program and which statewide resources, grants, education, and training are available. This section focuses on four of the five Es of Safe Routes to School: education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation.
- Infrastructure Funding and Support – Includes information on the funding available to schools and municipalities to enhance their existing infrastructure to create safer routes to school. This section focuses on the fifth E of SRTS, engineering, and it reviews the steps to take to develop an infrastructure project.
Much of the information in the guide is found in various locations within the PA Safe Routes to School Resource Center website, www.saferoutespa.org.
